GPSR and Compliance
In December 2024 the European Union placed into law, GPSR.
GPSR stands for General Product Safety Regulation. It's a European Union (EU) regulation that sets safety standards for consumer products. GPSR applies to all products sold in the EU, including digital products, software, and second-hand goods.
What does the GPSR do?
-Ensures that consumer products are safe
-Establishes obligations for businesses to ensure product safety
-Requires products to meet certain labeling, traceability, and documentation requirements
-Applies to online marketplaces
-Incorporates sustainability considerations
When, where and to what does GPSR apply?
-As of December 14th 2024, GPSR applies to all EU Member States, including Northern Ireland
-It applies to all products placed on the relevent/applicable markets after this date.
-This legislation does not apply to products placed on the relevant market before 13 December 2024
How is Build A Light Show adopting this?
Build A Light show has already acquired CE and ROHS certifications for 95% of the product lines that it sells that require it.
Some products simply do not require CE marking - things such as the Coro Props we sell do not need CE marking, but they do need to be made from materials that meet REACH regulation requirements, which they do. Unlike most of our competitors, we have had full and complete CE testing and certification done, we haven't just made declarations that our product conforms - we have done this fully and completely! There are are some products which do not have certification (though they do meet the standards needed), often of American/USA origin. As these were placed on the market by us in the EU since 2018, they are not relevant to the GPSR legislation
All our products shipped to the EU now have stickers attached, with QR codes that link back to this page, which contains all of the compliance details and the contact details for the EU based appointed person. All the required instructions for use of each product, where required/relevent are on the products page/description on this store.
Where can I see the certifications that are applicable?
All our certifications and certs can be found below. If you require ROHS reports or the full report that is referenced in the certificates, we can supply them but they are multiple page reports and too big to sensibly host on our store. Please contact us should you need them

We don't make bold claims about sustainability or green credentials, but we do try out best to do the right thing - sourcing packaging from companies that use recycled materials, using paper tapes rather than plastic, keeping our energy footprints as low as possible, and using couriers and shipping partners with credible green programmes.
