The new tool free Build A Light Show 64 hole topper was designed in the UK in a collaboration between Build A Light Show and Greg at BG.
Gone are the days of needing J-Hooks, T-Bolts, Clasps, Bungees and all the other fun to try to get strip onto your topper - this has all you need.
It may seem more expensive than our original 64 hole toppers - but please be aware that you are not just getting the topper, but 64 reinforcing clips for the strip and also 64 R-Clips to fix the strip to the topper - which are surprisingly really expensive - we have sourced those and added them for you!
This design is used on our commercial trees, and has cut down our installation and servicing time (strand service or replacement) dramatically - you can remove and replace these with the tree strands under tension.
Please note this is a bare topper - it is has not got the finish of the non raw/polished/painted versions. You will need to coat and protect the topper yourself, to the finish you desire.
Everything gets bigger.
I'd previously used the BALS 32 strand tree topper and that was quite a shift from the 16 strand Boscoyo tree topper I've used for the last 10 years, but this is another level.
It's about 49cm in diameter, it's cut from steel and it's heavy.
I've used a 48mm OD thick wall aluminium tube, to take the wait of the tree, and the slots in this topper line up with a 131 48mm wall plate.
Using a larger topper means to get the proportions right, your tree will be a minimum of 3M tall before the star.
Using 2" spacing (every other hole) gives a strip Length of about 320cm and 60 pixels a strip.
With 64 strips, you will need 3,840 pixels. If you're using 100 node strings, you can zig zag 5 strips (300 pixels).
A 4M tall tree, will give you 100 pixels per strip.
If doing it this way, the wiring becomes a little easier. Each strand is 100 pixel, each strand goes straight to its own channel on the controller. Lose a pixel and you only lose a few pixel on one strand
With that many pixels on a run, you need 12V and the power consumption becomes considerable.
With that many strips and pixels on the tree, weight becomes a serious issue and guy wires are a must. Make sure the ground is stable and consider the ground getting very wet in our beautifully wet winter weather.
The topper is quality cut on CNC, the cuts are sharp, so you may want to hit it with the flap wheel first, then paint.
Quality bit of kit that will last longer than me.
Comes supplied with clips and MSRs for easy tree assembly.
